CA Lightning Fires
I'm at Heritage RV Park (right in the middle). I just heard on NPR that this many lightning fires is a rare event. There are currently hundreds of fires burning and the previous record for fires of this type was something like 76.
Corning is not really in any danger as far as I know, but it's really smoky today

Smoke Settles in the Valley

My buddy Art told me about this last week but I didn't believe him. Apparently when the conditions are right and the fires are scattered enough, smoke will settle in the Sacramento valley. It's weird how it blacks out the sun. Kinda like a cloudy day except that you can taste the smoke.
And strange enough, these fires aren't even that close to Corning. The Humbolt fire that temporarily displaced thousands last week didn't even produce a smoky effect - and I could actually see that fire from the airport.
